futura 3 Posted June 21, 2006 Can't really see from the pics, is it cracked or badly scratched? steve@cornwall 100 Posted June 21, 2006 Put a 1.9 in my old cti last year-suspected h/g so pulled the head off. Lo and behold, that too had a nearly new h/g fitted and a cracked no 1 liner. Made diagnoses easier on mine , it had bits of ring embedded in the piston and head! I think we both found out why our doners were available in the first place- new gaskets would indicate that these engines were investigated previously and sold on quickly. Gutted for you- mine was only a 1.9 swap but I still beat the block up with a big hammer!!! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It took me 4 weeks finding the cause of massive overfuelling before it ran well enough to pronounce it dead I was considering using a 1.6 block and liners to repair it and suddenly thought "enough is enough" and conclusively ended any thoughts of wasting more time on it!
