Sumps

Recommended Posts

just a quick one, a 1.9 Mi was available with either alloy or steel sumps, is this correct, if so is the material the only differance, any internal differances ie. baffles etc?

thanks for your time

matt.

According to this thread, only a handfull of bx 16v engines had the steel sump, nearly all Mi's had alloy sumps. Maybe thats a 8v sump on that engine we were talking about?

It would be an odd Mi16 that didn't have an alloy sump, as they have the A/C mounts. The later 309 16V sumps were baffled, but nothing else.

So what sump has a baffle in it standard that can be easily sourced and fitted to the Mi, apart from the 309Gti16??! Gti6?

S16 Sump has a baffle, also is a straight swap onto the 1.9 if I remember rightly.

to answer your question IMHO the alloy sump is the better item because its finned it aids oil cooling quite alot. It allows me to run mine without an oil cooler.
