richsmells 2 Posted May 27, 2006 I've noticed a drip of coolant every now and again under the car but never enough to make a puddle or anything. When underneath yesterday I noticed it was coming from under the cambelt cover so it is likely to be the water pump/seal. Potentially how big a problem could this be? or should I live with it as long as it stays as the odd drip. The car has used a very small amount of water over the last four weeks. sorr 0 Posted May 29, 2006 I would fix anything that causes fluid to leak into the cam belt area.
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted May 29, 2006 Best to get it sorted ASAP tbh. Its not a big job to do. Ideally youll need to do your cambelt and tensioner along with the water pump, unless done very recently.
richsmells 2 Posted May 29, 2006 (edited) It was done by Miles 5k ago (this time last year) but I don't think he changed the water pump Edited May 29, 2006 by richsmells
luggy 13 Posted May 30, 2006 Hi Rich Would agree with Sorr an Turn, get the water pump and timing belt changed. My father in law had the same problem with his citroen, was leaking water from the pump. I advised him to get it changed but he didnt, pulley sheared on the water pump and pistons hit the valves. richsmells 2 Posted May 31, 2006 Can i not just lock the cam pulley and crankshaft pulley with screwdrivers. Slacken the tensioner and whip the waterpump off without removing the belt?
sorr 0 Posted May 31, 2006 It may be possible to do it with the belt in place, but space is really tight. Given how cheap belts are I would replace it for piece of mind. It is not a hard job to do and you have done most of it to replace the pump.
Anthony 1,003 Posted May 31, 2006 Pretty sure there's not enough space with the belt in place to remove the pump - and to be honest, once you've locked the pulleys and slackened the tensioner, removing the belt takes 30 seconds. As said, for the sake of a £10 belt I'd replace it as well if it's been exposed to coolant (and oil that's probably been washed down the block)
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted May 31, 2006 If your lucky the belt may still have the timing marks visable in which case it will just be a case of timing it up but as already said the belt will need to come off. Was the tensioner replaced also??
