Electric Windows Problem Please Help!

Recommended Posts

hi basically the passenger side window goes down but wont go up.

i have got the motor out and checked with a 12v supply that it will go both ways which it does.

so i though could be the switches but thats isnt either because,

the switch to do drivers window is fine it goes up and down, so i plugged that switch the go to the passenger window and nothing happens.

also the swith on drivers side to do passenger window doesnt work @ all.

you can feel the motor clicking when trying to go up, also when using drivers side switch.

thanks lee

had the same prob

u tried putting motor under pressure, ie with a pair of gloves on and making the motor turn adn grip and see with not too much pressure if the window motor clicks etc

Just a thought, but you have got both switches connected haven't you? i.e. the one on the passenger door, and the one one the drivers door.

I don't know if they're all models are the same, but on my 1990 H plate the circuit for the passenger window is very tortuous. It goes through the drivers side switch, over to the passengers side of the car, through the switch and motor on that side, then earths out via both switches using the same route! No wonder they can be a bit temperamental!! I once worked it out to around 20 connections from fuse box to eventual earth! It'll only take a couple of those connections to be slightly corroded, and the cumulative voltage drop would be too much, and the motor won't be getting enough power to operate.

Try cleaning all the connections you can find, make sure both switches are plugged in, and see how you go. I also stripped one of my switches down, to clean the contacts inide, which helped a lot. Watch out for all the little bits flying around though.
