Double Or Single Valve Springs?

Recommended Posts

Guest Nuno205Rallye

Hi there,

I'm planning the rebuild on one of the engines that I have sitting in my garage, and since I have a Schrick camshaft with 304/298 duration and 12,0mm Int. and 11,8mm Exh. lift ... my question is...

Should I go for double or single valve springs?

Schrick cams do not list any springs for the TU24, and they are not replying to my mails... :)

Almost a week since I sent them an e-mail.

Schrick cams are excelent, have really good experience with a 284 in a TU24, so, since I am doing all race mods in the 2nd engine, want to go a litle bit further.

Strange that they do not list in the catalogue any springs and retainers for this application.

With the double valve springs from PTS (Peugeot Sport) I would get coil bind in the inner spring way before max lift with these babies... unless I am reading the specs from the springs in a wrong way.

For what I know, the TU24 group A cam reaches 10,1 mm of max lift.

Valve lift you mean??

Catcams do stronger single springs for the TU24

Since I'm talking about valve springs, I'm only considering the lift at the valve, not the lift at the cam.

Cat Cams do have a single (stronger in their words) valve spring, but looking at the specs of those springs (ref: 99843) I have a strong feeling that seat pressure in those ones are not allot better than the original ones :D

The TU24 has already got uprated valve springs relatively to the other TU's ( bet that they are very similar to the injected TU's, specially the TU2J2 ones).

Have yet to measure original spring pressures, I'm lacking a spring tester

Yes you are probably right!!

Are you sure its 10.1 for a Peugeot group A one? Do you have the full sepc?

All the catcams been to be way higher then this..

Lift isn´t everything <_<

The specs for the Group A camshaft for the TU24 is as follows:

Timing - 50-70 70-50

Lift at TDC : 3,55mm Int. - 3,20 Exh.

Max lift : 10,8mm (I was wrong with the 10,1)

Lobe center is at 107º (I presume)

Nuno,

Any idea how to identify one of these, without fitting the rockers and measuring the actual lift? Are there some identifying marks anywhere?? Does it have a brass collar?

Can not confirm that, don´t remember seeing a brass collar in one, but I'm not trustworthy :P

Why don´t you graph that camshaft?
