Squeaking Noise On Right Turns

Recommended Posts

jonarob

Just recently I've been getting a noise when turning in right at low speed usually.

It sounds like brakes do when they squeak, however I'm not applying the brakes when the noise happens, and my brakes rarely squeak when I do actually use them.

Anybody got any ideas?

1.6 GTI, BTW.

edit: It only comes from the right front wheel!

My heater fan squeaks when I turn right.

Very annoying.

My 1.6 has started to do this following engine change, but seems only when turning right and facing downhill.I had split the hub from caliper, bottom ball-joint, track-control arm and strut to withdraw driveshaft.

Didn't do this before, but did sound like the pads were worn out when applying the brakes although there is plenty of "meat" left on them. I was wondering if this is two symptoms of a deformed calliper showing themselves differently with the calliper re-alligned? I will investigate soon (f***ed my back at work so can't do it at the moment). Had hoped to have looked into it by now to post you the results. Going to upgrade to 1.9 brakes / shafts but will try fitting a spare 1.6 calliper first if you havn't resolved it by then! keep us posted.

Well I haven't had a look yet, but I'm getting a serious amount of brake dust on my front wheels, as well as a brake burning smell pretty much all the time.

Any ideas as to what the chuff's going on? :D

Just come home in mine and noticed it seems to only squeal when turning after applying the brakes, parking and such. Also the annoying clunk of pads re-seating when reversing has gone so I'm assuming the pistons aren't retracting fully after braking, possibly due to the exposed part of the piston being exposed to the elements and corroding? / split rubber seals ? sound feasible? If thats it then maybe new pads would be a temporary fix, re positioning the piston due to the extra width, or wet and dry the exposed piston ends.

if the flexi brake hoses are still the originals they could have broken down internally which often causes brake binding with gradually increasing severity.

Mine does this. Miles had a look but couldn't work it out. It did it with bendix calipers and i now have girling items and still does it. When turning right at low speed (parking etc) squeak from the driver's side front wheel. Glad i'm not alone!

I'll see if the Mot tester says anything next week.

that might explain why it started after moving the calliper, I'll change hoses with the brake upgrade- thanks-will post result.....
