What Is The Best Way To Remove The ...

What's the easiest way to remove the old rubber mounts whilst keeping the beam on the car? I've undone the 4 nuts but can't seem to get the beam low enough to remove the old mounts.

Well either try a bigger leaver on the arms or maybe cut/melt the old rubber as the thread doesn't go all the way through the rubber (they usualy split when they are totally shot).

You can replace these without removing the beam.

You do need a big lever (like a tyre lever), I did tbem a while ago on my 309 and had no trouble removing the old and refitting the new ones.

completely raise the back of the car, slacken the 4 front bolts (not all the way), and support the beam on a trolley jack.

Just another thought it might be that the rear rubber bushes are rusted into the arms that mount the beam to the car.

Couple of knocks with a hammer will help.

Also it it seems that they arent gonna come out, its proabably best to remove the beam, and all the brake pipes (thats the pain in the neck part).

But trust me I've done it on the car.... took about an hour for both sides (including jacking up and making tea). :)

No way is that beam coming off just for two poxy rubber mounts! Just put a jigsaw through them but it got to dark to do anymore and I couldn't be arsed to dig to the back of the garage for a worklight, so I'll have another bash tomorrow. I've got Baker version 1's to go on so it should be a doddle to fit them without the prefabricated threaded parts, I'd guess?

Ahh good... Stu Baker solid rear mounts. (I've got one of his very nice engine mounts, been thinking about getting the rear beam one)

Really easy to change then. Yeah if they dont play nice big hack saw. Already been said they are just bonded rubber theres no metal through the centre.

I managed to refit standard pug ones with the studs on without removing the beam so you should have no problems :)

There is no need to remove the beam to remove those mounts. Loosening off the front 4 nuts and completely undoing the upper (hidden below the plastic seal) and lower (underneith the beam) nuts for the rear mounts.

I've swapped a few of these without removing the beam. Takes 5 minutes :)

All done thanks guys. After slackening the 4 front bolts it took longer to put my kit away than it did to change them! yet more good advice. :D

I generally find the easiest way to do it is to undo the 3 bolts on one side, jack the car up, change the mount, lower the car back down onto the beam, then do the same on the other side.
