Guest woll Posted March 20, 2006 Hi, I really want to get a GE quickshift for my 1.6 and have seen other posts where people say they get the quickshift and rods. Are the rods necessary as I'm on a tight budget at the moment? Also, is it really as easy as people say to fit the quickshift? How long will it take me and do I need much know-how? Does the car need to go on a ramp? Any help would be great. Thanks
Jonmurgie 2 Posted March 20, 2006 No the rods aren't necessary... they are nice though As for fitting, I did mine on a ramp and it was much easier as it goes under the exhaust manifold... I'm sure it can be done from the top but I don't know how easy/difficult it may be from the top...
Guest andy309goodwood Posted March 20, 2006 just fitted mine yesterday from the top i also have the rods if your std rods are in good condition and not hevily worn you should be ok how ever there is a lot more stress on the long rod that goes from the gear shift to the L bracket as this is now working harder due to le leverage i like knowing that the rods are on there and the ge ones have a locking pin on that prevent them poping of as good as it gets with out going for rose joints it took me aprox 30 mins to fit mine compleat with rods the big bolt on the L bracket is a 22mm and ull need to prise of the grease cap to fit it hope this helps andy
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted March 20, 2006 They are easy to remove (I;ve never fitted one) but it's all along the same lines, A jack and axle stands are best if you havn;t got a ramp and as said a 22mm socket or spaner is needed I;ve got a Second hand old type of 'L' design which came from them, No use to me as I hate them, so drop me a PM and we'll sort something out
