Egt When Mapping Ecu's

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at the VEM ECU (www.vems.hu).

One of the input's it can deal with is EGT (cost wise it isn't that much!)

Is this worthwhile to use or not worth brothering with? I have googled and have a mixed feeling about it...

I am going wideband lambda anyway...your thoughts please.

EGT is much more important on Turbo applications as it's a very quick way of knowing if your getting det and the engine is going to blow! I don't think it's that essential on a N/A car like the 205...

VEMS is a hectic ecu. Its amazingly flexible but its so complex.

Thanks Jon!

DrSeuss, have you looked at the website recently? The documention has improved quite a bit in the last week (maybe 2!). There's appears to be a couple of peple who have fitting the ECU to pugs...one of them that has some info on the wiki was a 87 309 gti...I have found a refence to a S16 engine...

i was going to suggest the gauge i'm planning to get .

you should get it especially if you're getting the VEMS full ecu.

I don't think i need the gauge if EGT is no use to me on a NA appilcation (i might fit the EGT bits if I ever fit a turbo!) I will be getting the LCD display - this shows the lambda voltage (like the guage). I wonder what the egoC: stands for...

Its all fun

The VEMS needs a lot of reading up

I thought the individual EGT per cylinder was used when mapping to detect pinking.

the gauge i suggested is a wideband lambda + egt (+ aux input) gauge, not just egt gauge though :).

The gauge looks like it shows lambda voltage, not the actual AFR?

That gauge is quite expensive, at this stage I don't think I need one...

they're reprogramming the firmware to show AFR, it should be ready soon :).

yes i know, i've just been suggesting it as it's way cheaper than other combinations of WBO2 + EGT gauges and sensors B).

i got in touch with them because i'm interested in one but i actually

managed to secure a very nice discount for a group buy of gauges.

i've got some more info about the gauge itself and i'll post about

the group buy in the group buys forum soon.

thanks.

Dave of DP engineering is heavily involved in the VEMS ecu project. Pieter Oonicx told me of the gauge's imminent arrival a while ago. But its not massively competitive, working out only slightly cheaper then the innovate kit.

The VEMS has the wide band controller built in - it just requires a driver for the the heater control (about £1) from what I understand.

DrSeuss, what do you mean by the 'innovate kit'? The kit with the sensor, controller + guauge?

I mean the LC-1 with XD-1 gauge.

drseuss> true, but it gets MUCH cheaper with the discount ;):P.
