Batfink 201 Posted March 12, 2006 I have a gti I am wanting to be converted to a non- sunroof The roof is in a bad way paint wise so would need respray so I thought while I am at it i'll make it look better! now I have two options 1. buy a new roof or 2. I have a 205 rallye thats looking like I will scrap it. I could cut the roof off low down then let the bodyshop unbraze the welds and attach to my car Which would be more cost effective? One needs more labour but the other costs more in panels!
Jonmurgie 2 Posted March 12, 2006 Personally I'd go for a new roof... they are still available from Puegeot for £105 + VAT and will have all the correct length legs to fit onto the car properly. Banjo went down the route of trying to use a roof cut off another 205 and eventually went for a new roof (mine in fact) so mabe drop him a PM
Banjo 1 Posted March 12, 2006 (edited) Hey, I havn't actually got round to fitting it yet, its just kinda sat in the garage as im doing up my red one at the mo (New engine) but will take some pics and write a little thing on it when I do do it, should be in a month or so. Do you still want a roof panel Jon or you gona plate it? Ben Edited March 12, 2006 by Banjo
Jonmurgie 2 Posted March 12, 2006 (edited) I want a roof panel again... if you want to sell it back to me PM me Edited March 12, 2006 by Jonmurgie
Banjo 1 Posted March 12, 2006 I'm fitting it you can't have it! Why not just plate over it just as good on a track car? I'll ask my Peugeot guy if he can get me a panel for good price Ben
Batfink 201 Posted March 12, 2006 so what was the problem with a used panel Banjo?!
Banjo 1 Posted March 12, 2006 lol, it fell over in the wind down the side of my house and bent! It is possible to use an old roof but as Jon said a lot easier to use a new panel from Pug. It was good practice taking the old skin apart before I attacted my car tho. Ben
Batfink 201 Posted March 12, 2006 whoops! lol I just want the cheapest way lol
Paintguy 0 Posted March 12, 2006 whoops! lolI just want the cheapest way lol Get a plate dropped into it then. I don't mean one of those bolt a plate over the hole jobs , but have a plate that is welded in flush with the roof. A bit of paint over it, and nobody will be able to tell the difference. Pretty skilled welding needed not to distort the roof panel though, and you've still got the extra weight of the sunroof framing, but it's gotta be lighter than that huge chunk of glass! DaveW 6 Posted March 12, 2006 oh no whats wrong with the rallye? using another 205's roof sounds abit cut n shut but its cheap
Batfink 201 Posted March 12, 2006 my rallye alternator has packed in. The suspension is knackered, engine has 1 worn piston ring so it glugs oil, generally a rather worn out car Shame - it tried but its broken down too many times. Needs a mercy killing
DaveW 6 Posted March 12, 2006 oh no you cant kill it hmm i could make a good car from my xs with that rallye does anyone have a pic of a non sunroof conversion then? not a panel stuck over the hole
