Sbc Springs, Why Put These On The Sprintline Kit?

Recommended Posts

kenan

I'v got a Sprintline kit on the way and have read people recommending using SBC springs instead of the supplied Sprintline springs.

Can you tell me why you change then, how do they change the handling of the car? also where would I get them from?

SBC = Skip Brown Cars... the springs are essentially a rate that SBC feel work best with the Sprintline shocks. I have no personal experience of either so can't commnet on whether they are better or not but as SBC are pug specialists I would imagine they know what they are doing

They don't have a website (at the moment) but a quick seach on here for Skip Brown should bring up their phone number...

The SBC springs simply work better than the standard Sprintline kit supplied springs in my experience - less crashy and retains decent ride comfort whilst giving you stiffer springs.

They are progressive also. They have tighter wound coils at the top and bottom and then looser in the middle. So they are soft over small bumps at moderate speed and then stiff up as the travel increases.

Ok, sounds good guys thanks for the quick responce.

Better get on the blower as I want them fitted for the PSOOC track day at Llandow

Bugger, they are out of stock :o

That's not strictly true. According to Paul @ SBC, the tighter coils at one end are just to get the lowered ride height and compress right down under the weight of the car. So I assume that the free length must be similar to a standard spring, maybe this helps with the comfort?

Whats the difference between these and the SBC springs ??

I want the set-up for road driving, not bothered if it's a little soft when on track.

This has always confused me.

So, do people pay £400 for a sprintline kit, then chuck the springs away and pay another £200 (estimated) for the SBC springs?

Can you not just buy SBC springs, and some Bilstein dampers separately?

SBC springs are around £50 or so from memory.

It works out cheaper buying the kit even if you don't want the supplied springs, than it does buying the 4 shocks seperately. Also, you can flog the springs from the kit on eBay for a few quid.

Am I right in thinking I could put the springs on e-bay and just call them lowering springs for the standard shocks????

Will then do the usual e-bay and claim the add 100BHP

Yup - there's usually a couple of sets of these springs on there at any time....

Oh, and since they're red, surely that must be atleast 15hp?

The SBC springs were about £55 iirc? I sold my Bilstein springs for more than that on ebay

I fitted a Sprintline kit to my car this afternoon. I retained the original springs. The car is only for use on a track so does this negate the need to change them or are the SBC/Eibach spring going to give better handling?

Probably won't make a huge difference to a track only car to be honest - main difference I've found is in terms of ride comfort/refinement, especially on the less-than-ideal road surfaces in my area.

Glad you said that, I didn't really feel like stripping them back down. :D

Right well I have had the kit on for a few days includiong a trackday with the standard supplied springs.

What can I say, it's given the car that pug magic back :) I'll admit on track it might be a little soft but was keeping up with some fast well drivern cars so I'm a very happy chappy
