laser green 1.9 0 1 Cars Posted February 14, 2006 I have managed to remove what was left of my two bump stops. Do the powerflex bump stops bolt straight to the body of the car. As you can see this is all that is left of the cups that hold the peugeot ones in place.
Ahl 4 Posted February 14, 2006 Heheh, mine were even worse than those. You still need the original peugeot 'cups' bolted in. The powerflex bump stops then go into those (with a bit of persuasion!)
mbayley77 0 Posted February 14, 2006 Cant you leave them off entirely?
Ahl 4 Posted February 14, 2006 Leaving them off is rather bad for the shock absorbers when the suspension really compresses. You've also got issues with the wheels rubbing through the fuel filler pipe etc.
laser green 1.9 0 1 Cars Posted February 14, 2006 Do the cups from peugeot come with the rubber stops attatched. I'll have to ring them in the morning any how, but I just wondered.
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted February 15, 2006 They look different to the ones I've got fitted to my car's. Do the cups from peugeot come with the rubber stops attatched.Don't think so, they are a seperate parts. They bolt through the middle of the cup & then you have to fit the bumpstop. (easier said than done). You can also have difficulty at an MOT if the tester notices they aren't fitted afaik. Graham.
Bats 0 Posted February 16, 2006 I lost one of my bumpstops duringa a sprint event and noted that you can't get a power drill in to drill out the remnants due to the lack of space available, you have to drop the beam to get in. I had bought a rubber cone and steel cup, but as I didn't have time to drop the beam and didnt fancy the thought of the trailing arm contacting the fuel filler, decided to drill through the rubber cone and mount it on the flat section of the trailing arm with large tie wraps (not using the cup). So it is effectively acting upside down contacting the original mounting area. It seems to work and has not moved or fallen off during other sprint / hillclimb events. I don't know what the MOT tester will say, if anything. Can anyone comment further on whether this bodge is a problem for the MOT?
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted February 16, 2006 As long as it is there & securely held on it shouldn't cause a problem imo. You might only fail if the tester spots it isn't there. Some people have used a high strength adhesive to stick the rubber to the body when the cup has rusted away iirc. Graham.
Jonmurgie 2 Posted February 16, 2006 Bumpstops fell off my car... never bothered putting them back amd have no problems, but I guess that's a track car so not as important?!
Craigb 2 Posted February 16, 2006 The retaining bolt sheared on mine , so I puddle welded a new cup to the shell using the center hole for the puddle . As said earlier you can't get a drill in there .
Duroc 2 1 Cars Posted February 16, 2006 (edited) I just fitted my new ones last weekend. Had to wait 3 months for them!!!! Also the bolts they supplied weren't threaded far enough along, so I had to use my own. Quality! Edited February 16, 2006 by Duroc
laser green 1.9 0 1 Cars Posted February 17, 2006 (edited) The parts guy at pug said that they would be in stock on thursday, called in today for the stops and guess what, no parts. If it get's past a week I'll have to go to auto five. I think they don't seem intrested in the old pugs anymore. They should remember what saved there company.
