Slightly Uneaven Accelleration

Recommended Posts

Guest BrainFluid

Hiya!

When i floor it, it feels like the front right wheel is doing more of the accelaratory work than the left wheel.

Felt in the steering wheel as it pulls to the right ever so slightly.

Am I right in thinking that this is a CV joint problem?

More likley to be a tracking or wishbone problem to be honest. CV joint problems normally appear in the form of vibration or knocking. Jack up your front passenger side wishbone (it's going to be the passenger side because the wheel is trying to turn right as the acceleration pulls it forward). Try to pull the wheel in/out. At the same time looking closely where the wishbones join the subframe to see if the wishbones are knackered.

It could also be a track-rod end, so while the wheel's up in the air try to turn is left/right by hand and see how much play there is before the wheel turns. There should be nothing.

Okay.

The car has just passed its mot and recieved no advisory's on the wishbone or the rod end area, but i will do as suggested, jack her up and inspect.

Just so you know the car does have slight knocking on full lock, which is why i presumed it could be the cv joint, wondered if one of the wheels was getting more velocity!

So, if it does turn out to be none of the above. Tracking would be the best bet yes?

How long has it been doing this & does it veer back to the left when you come off the power again?

If it does then they have missed a dying wishbone inner bush on the MOT. When was the MOT done?

Mot was done last week and he was pretty thorough.

When the car has fishished accelerating and a constant speed is reached the car does not pull back to the left, It just all returns to normal.

The pulling to the right is only slight, but more apparent when Its proper floored. Definatly somthing that needs curing especially if its something that will get worst!

Its still pissing down in Glasgow so I havent had the chance to jack her up yet...

Under a constant throttle it won't be as apparent but if you accelerate hard & then close the throttle again does it give the same reaction but to the left?

Yup, spot on pugtorque.

The steering wheel does jerk to the left a bit and the car veers left to about the same extent.

Wishbone then :(

Not necessarily wishbone but one of the inner bushes at least. (although it is easier to change the whole wishbone but about 10x's more to do so.:))

Sorry for my ignorance, but my car is doing exactly the same thing. Pulls to the right then back to the left when the throttle is released.

I've had both lower suspension arms replaced.(the big ones that attach the the bottom of each hub) However what does the wishbone look like? as i assumed this were both the same thing ;)

thanks

Wishbone / lower suspension arm are one & the same thing just called different things by different garages.

Where did you get the replacement arms from? It isn't unheard of for the bushes to fail in less than 100 miles.

Graham.
