Race Car Rear Suspension

Recommended Posts

markrnorton

Just a few pics of my race cars rear suspension with the 8" rims on, first time out of the garage in 6 months!

Anthony did the beam refurb and lowered it, but with the 8" rims i had to fit the extension arches. rear is very tight, front has scope for more track width, and possibley 9 or 10" rims.

I though some of you guys maybe interested as there have been a few threads on the 8" rim/wheels lately.

Looking good... I assume there is no engine in that shell yet then?

No engine in yet, that should be in a couple of weeks time. That's why the front is a bit high. but i have still got to play around with the springs on the front. currently running 425lbs.

not sure what race series yet, got a couple in mind but i keep changing the spec of the car which could make a difference in class eligibilty.

Christ those rear tyres are a close fit! You can see now why I said that you *really* didn't want it lowered three splines on the back... :D

Be good to see when it's finished though and in its first race - certainly looks like it's coming along nicely.

Yeh they are inbetween 205 rallye arches and the ecosse ones. The front ones are widened and look really good.

what spec is the rear beam?

Standard 309 GTi at the moment lowered approximately 60mm or so.

As Anthony says, standard spec beam, lowered 2 splines. bump stops cut down and avo race valved rear dampers. There's not much movement at all on the back even if you jump up and down in the boot.

Not sure if arb needs uprating yet as there is now no weight over the back of the car. have to do some testing to see.

arches were for 205, but i tweeked them to fit the 309. worked out ok. defo need with wide rims as you can see !

this is the only other side shot i've got at the moment

Once the engine is in and you have a level ride height might wider rims catch on lock?

Possibly C_W, have to wait and see, i reacon 9" would go, 10" rims may be a bit ambitious.

we shall see.

i'll let you guys know in a few weeks.

well done Mark...looking good. I was always under the impression you were building a 205, but a 309 makes more sense anyway
