307 Hdi Brakes

Recommended Posts

Livelee

Hi

I've just taken delivery of a 307 brake upgrade for my 309.

I asked for "The discs, calipers and yokes from a 307 HDi".

I was quoted £180 delivered. Turns out that was + VAT ;)

Anyway, they turned up this morning and I think i've been sent more than I asked for.

Below are the pics of what I've receiced. I've got a pair of each of them. Could you tell me what I need and what (if anything) I need to (try) and get a refund on.

As far as I know you won't need pic 5,6,7 and 8, what is 9? Master Brake Cylinder? Don't believe that fits from a 307 either.

Looks like one of the calipers has melted, best take a look at that before fitting?Have you measured the diameter of the discs? The last pic looks like a close up of the discs!

Melted!!!! Perhaps I should go and clean them up and take some more pics. Warm soapy water ok?

Yes the last pic is a close up of the disc.

What have I got in pics 5,6,7. I guess these are the "yokes"? If I don't need them then what are the yoke things that people talk about.

*Mechanically i'm a complete novice, I know nothing ;-)

Yokes i dont think they are..look more like hubs and hub carriers to me.Yokes are the bits that conect the caliper to the hub carrier, correct me if im wrong.there is a great guide on the main site

Yes you need the yokes and not the hubs as in your picture.Yoke connects the caliper to the hub by way of two bolts and a metal strap type thing, personally i think you may have paid over the odds for what you got as brand new complete setup is £250 ish.

A good search will bring up loads of posts and info on this subject..and the main sight guide also ;)

Well the fact that there is £82.25 worth of hubs that I don't need that should make the price a little more reasonable?

Have I got the yokes? can they be seen in the picture, I can take more if needed.

Many Thanks

Dan

Didn't think you were dissing me at all mate. :D

I've just been and scrubbed down the caliper and I think the yoke is on there. Just gonna try and undo the bolts.....but i'm expecting them to be hard.

No idea why life the discs have left but the pads look good.

What's a yoke then?

This part is the Yoke - basically the part that gets bolted onto the hub, and then the caliper bolts to (although when you remove what people usually call the "caliper" from the car, the yoke and caliper come off as one, and only seperate when you strip them down like you have)

But yes, in answer to your question, the parts you need all appear to be there and present ;)

Picture 2994 is what is properly known as a 'knuckle'. Often people refer to them as a 'hub' or a 'yoke', which is what you asked for. Therfore you got it.

Knuckle, blimey more thingys to ask for.

Like I said above, I'm a complete novice so I just asked for the stuff listed in the guide on the main page.

Why would 2 parts in a brake system share the same name? surely this is going to lead to problems like mine?

They look like they came off a burnt out 307 to me, I would take the seal off and the piston out to check for damage inside if I were you. Also are you seriously gona use the disks and pads?!?

Edit; your getting mixed up mate, you've bought 307 hubs, you need to send those back.

Good news :(

Dad has checked them out and it's all good. We're going to get a seal kit and rebuild them but he says they are more than good enough. Pads fine, discs fine.

All I need to do now is convince the breakers to collect the hubs and give my money back. Then the lot will have cost me £150 delivered.

Brand spanking new pads are only 20ish quid. Remember when dealing with brakes, one has to ask the question, how much is my life worth? For me at least, its worth the cost of new pads.
