Wheel Bearings

Recommended Posts

Guest CB-Dave

I had a shock at work the other day, wheel bearings for the 205 GTi are £40.99 a side!!!

I can get a pair of the same ones from work using a different method for about £50 but that's a hell of a lot for bearings - anywhere else sell them cheaper?

oh, just to add - I mean front wheel bearings, not rear...

Motor factors usually want about £20 per side, but they're supposed to be not so good as genuine pug. Although the cheaper option is what I went for with no problems as yet..

just so you know i spoke to pug the other day about rear wheel bearings.....they want 127.48 each.....

after i picked myself up off of the floor....it includes the hub as well or something.

So where can i get some rear wheel bearings for a 1.9 ABS 91 which are pug quality?

Ahl

Front Wheel bearing: SKF BRT901 (x2)

Rear Wheel bearing: SKF BRT666 (x2)

Rear wheel (with ABS?): SKF BRT1219 (x2)

Get the yellow pages out and looks for Bearing distributors. Be aware, the mark up is 50% normally. Say your trade or just ask for a discount.

*edit* These bearings are for the 1.6.

I paid £24.99 + vat per side for SKF bearings (Kit including hub nut and circlips)from my local bearing supplier. They didnt have them in stock but got them the next day. Same numbers as posted by Ahl.

Rear bearings must be bought complete with the hub-assembly..

That's why they're more expensive. It's not possible to just change the bearing in the rear hub, as I can't see any way to get the old bearing out after it's been pressed in.

Well when I asked about this a few months back I was given the impression that you can renew the rear bearings.

If you can only buy the hub, then does anybody know (rather than me making a simple phone call!) if the Neat Autos item is a complete hub and bearing? It's about £40.

I am looking for 2 bearings too for 1.9 hubs, however how can the 1.6 bearings be the same as the 1.9 as the driveshafts are different thicknesses and the parts catalogue shows two different numbers here? Careful M@tt you might lose a wheel!!

Incidentally I have just rung up Pug about the 3326 35 and the part number has changed to 3350 16 and they want £62.91 each plus VAT!! Ouch!!

I believe these are te same as non abs 306 ones too (well the whole hub is).

I'm 'sure' Miles mentioned that you change the rear bearings by knocking the stub axle out, it appears to be an easy job.

Of course I maybe wrong.

The rear's can be got from GSF or ECP and are all SKF ones I;ve found. Fronts are a different matter thou for some reason so for the SKF ones a local Motor factors are the best bet.

Quickest way to remove the rear bearing is simply knock the stub axle thru it and it only takes a minute this way

I've changed loads of front wheel bearings on 205s but no rear ones as yet.
