De-locking (post Brake In)

Cant find anything in the search on it (other than 205 doors for sale!)

Had my car broken into while i was in an exam yesterday. Really takes the mick cos its about 300yds from the Police station on the same road! Had the chain on the car, not that they tried. The flap over the head unit, and the facia for the head unit buried in the door pocket (under cars of redbull).

First they tried the screw driver in the lock trick (Yeah right), then stuck a driver down the side and took the whole damn thing out. So they got in, eventually found the facia (after going into the empty glovebox) and realised it was a £30 Goodmans tape HU not worth the effort i guess cos they then left the car!

Since there was NOTHING in the car (on show or otherwise) i can only thing that they saw the £20 6x9s in the parcel shelf and cos there RED im guessing the dumb sods thought they where Xplods or something.

Not a huge problem because im getting rid of the car in 14 days, so i've bolted a 4" plate on with 9 bolts, and quickly sprayed it.

Now im more worried about the new car!

Its body work is totally mint!

Im gonna get a proper big boys alarm installed as well.

But is it worth the effort of delocking the doors (since i DONT use the door locks anyway)?

How much does it cost and what EXACTLY has to be done?

I've also heard the 306's have 'dead locks', what are they and can they be put on anything else (205, 405 etc).

thanks to all

I've had the passenger door delocked on my car & it cost me about £50 iirc to have the hole blanked & the door panel resprayed by a mate who works in a bodyshop, he welded a circle of metal in the original hole for the lock inside the door & then smooothed the exterior before painting it all up.

Somebody on here had totally delocked their car & made a post about it ages ago when they got locked out completely by the battery dying AFAIK so while it is a good idea for avoiding damage it can backfire if the battery just completely dies with no warning.

Don't know about the 306 but I also understand they have deadlocks fitted from the factory.

The thing is if they want to get in your car for anything, they will no matter how much damage they cause IMO.

When I had my car broken in to 6 months ago the thieving scum just bent the door over and didn't even bother trying to force the door lock, which was a good thing as I didn't need a new door lock just a new door!

As pugtorque said if they want to get in then they will no matter how much damage they cause, because there robbing the car any way so why should they care.

Sounds like a very nice price to me PugTorque!

Im not worried about the battery going flat as i can get into the car faster without the key than with (battery or no battery). One of those advantages when you go canoeing, leave the keys in the car and you dont loose them.

Personally its a bit of a design flaw in the BX, but i doubt someone would ever figure it out! Kind of like the old Merc trick of pulling the head light out, fusing the wires together and all the doors pop open :)

The stupid thing is there was absolutley nothing in there of any value, except maybe the O2 rubics cube! And much better HU to for out of the surrounding Fords :(

As for the door peel trick, i didnt think that worked on PSA cars. Ive seen it done and many Ford Escorts, but never on a french car! We tried to do this on my car about a year ago cos i locked the keys in the car. Three of us (and the other two are huge fat gets!) tried peeling the door, but it wouldnt go! Eventually we got the windo open a little and had four people jumping on it, until finally the mechanism gave in and we where back in the car!

Might seriously consider doing it now! Not worried about windows, i have spares. But body work is expensive :(

I think you're spot on there, delocking the car to prevent damage to the doors around the locks isn't such a bad idea. A brick through the window is a cheaper and easier fix.

Funnily enough the exact same thing happened to me just before Xmas. This time though the thieving scum forced the drivers door lock with something and have bent the door slightly around the lock. Once again though there was nothing on display in the vehicle and the only stuff of value was in the boot which they then opened and knicked. I can still lock and unlock the car fine as I use the remote.

I have got a face off but that was locked and hidden in the boot. When I reported it to the police they said there was a gang going round breaking into French cars in the West London area just on the off chance they could knick something. :)

I'm thinking of having the doors delocked but just leaving the boot standard. Thing is the cars standard otherwise and I don't want to mess with the looks too much. If the battery failed, would the boot still open with the key?

Yes, its a mechanical lock but with a visable lock they might just try to force their way into the boot which if that is where you have put you valubles means they are straight to them, job done.

Yes, it would lock/unlock fine :)

Thats another weird thing, i usually have ALL my tools in the boot, but 5 days before i had been working on a mini and taken the tools out, how jammie. Thing is they musnt have gone in the boot cos there was various bottles of lager in there and they hadnt been touched, can only think they got disturbed!

if you delocked all the doors and had only remote operated lock, and if

the battery died, you wouldn't be able to get into the car. however, if you

created a backup connection where you could connect another battery to,

that would be good :).

my question is, would a little 9V square battery be able to unlock the doors?

It certainly wouldnt open all the locks, they take a HUGE amount of current and would kill a PP9 battery (try putting head lights on in the dark then locking and unlocking central locking. It becomes VERY obvious!

But you may be able to get into them in a similar way to sooo many other cars (without doing any damage). I'll try and accost the next 205 driver i see and ask them if i can break into there car!

A better option my be a method of overiding the bonnet, then you can hook up a new battery. With the bonnet being manual anyway that could be a much better option!

After seeing the aa do it i reckon i could break into my car in about 30 seconds, without damage. If you Rigged a couple of connectors in the wheel arch (just a couple of wires run from the battery. You could easily attach a couple of leads from another battery, and get in that way.

vanny> what if you've got a battery in the boot though :D.

drseuss> yep i thought about external battery terminals as well B).

huddsta> yeah i was thinking more of one lock rather than the whole system.

anyway, keep it clean guys, don't publically describe the methods of braking in.

however, i'd be interested to hear it over PM's ;) as batteries in both of my 205's

died recently :D. luckily i still have the locks ;).
