Dutch205er 0 Posted October 15 Anyone thougths about the statement of Rolf? The camshaft i bought as being DKZ might NOT be DKZ :/ Today, measured the valve clearance:
SRDT 255 Posted October 15 Is there any visible paint rings on the cam? You should have two white rings here :
Dutch205er 0 Posted October 15 No. I bought an DKZ camshaft from a ZX Volcano with XU9JAZ engine. Turns out it's NOT a DKZ camshaft ;/
Dutch205er 0 Posted October 15 In and out both 48,1 mm, width 36,8 mm. D6B?

The head from which they've been taken off is pretty much worthless now too . Cam caps are always mathched set with the head , otherwise you'd need to line bore the head if using caps from another head . There's markings on the caps 2 and 4 , no marks on 1 , 3 and 5 but those you can't really mix up except maybe 3 .. Mark them with some paint , tipex , or punch before you take them off . Valve clearances look a bit too tight , for turbo , on NA 0.15mm inlet / 0.35mm exhaust works well . But on turbo , should go for 0.20mm inlet / 0.40mm exhaust . Dutch205er 0 Posted October 15 OK, didn't know that! The head has been flattened, after a headgasket failure. This values are with the original camshaft now.
SRDT 255 Posted October 15 The other engine for the ZX Volcane 1.9i is the XU9JAK D6E, bare engine is identical to DKZ... except for the camshaft that is the same as D6B. As for the cam caps they are also machined with the head because it's more convenient to do it that way, if you really need to change a cam cap and have a few spare heads at hand it is very likely that one of the caps will fit well enough. DamirGTI 366 Posted October 15 Did they cut or lap the valves with the grinding paste ? Common issue is people adjust the valve clearances whilst the head is removed , but once you fit the head on the block and tighten all the head bolts to the final stage the clearances close from around 0.05mm up to even 0.10mm . The force of fully tightened head bolts squashes the head so to speak , which then ends up in tighter valve clearances than set previously - always adjust them when the head is fully assembled and tightened on the block . Some camshaft ID help :
Dutch205er 0 Posted October 15 The head is back on the car, then measured. This is the camshaft:
DamirGTI 366 Posted October 15 Bit tricky to distinguish but looks like D6B item . Look for paint ring marks between the lobes .. or if it's been aggressively cleaned , look for any trace of paint usually dark brown , sometimes white/cream and green as well . I've some cams here to compare/measure wise , but tricky bit is getting to them all , as i cannot move the car which is in the way !
Dutch205er 0 Posted October 15 Absolute no paint.. This camshaft, if D6B, is still an upgrade? Or too risky on a flattened head?
DamirGTI 366 Posted October 15 Not really for 2.0 T engine , but does not mean you cannot use it . Id guess it'll shift and narrow the power band way up in the rev range , so you'll loose all the low end torque . Flattened/skimmed head makes no difference . It's the cam profile which is not suited for turbo engine .
Dutch205er 0 Posted October 15 Hmm, i will keep current camshaft for now, Measure the shims, order correct ones, 0,2 and 0,4 clearance. Put this cam back, i want to drive the car this month
