Graphite grey slam panel colour?

Recommended Posts

Thom

Hi All. I'm just about to send my project off to the bodyshop for repray in the original graphite grey. Does anybody know what colour the slam panel should be? It's currently black but I've no idea if has always been. The car is a 1.9 gti, 1989 phase 1.5.

Of the hundreds of 205`s i have seen, either black or light grey, completely randomly it seems, unless i am missing some Gallic  logic?

If it has never had a front end rebuild i would presume it was the black rather than grey.

There is a scrap 1993 graphite grey 2 door diesel shell outside, it has a black one, a 94 Miami blue 4 door has grey, a 92 light blue has grey, another 92 4 door same model and blue, has a black one, a 92 gti  in white also a black one, and a 91TD in black has a black one.

Maybe we need everyone that has an original car to say black or grey on their variant and see what emerges, in the rhyme or reason department?

Thank you, it's defintely had one wing at some point but no sign of any other crash damage so I suspect this had a black one

Discussed here ,Imo its more beige than grey around 1989/1990 ,they stayed this colour till cats became standard in about 1992 then went black .Toms Laser in the thread is original and spot on colour wise.

my 92, phase 2 1.9 cti in red had a creamy beige colour slam panel. I would like to know why they just weren't all painted the same colour as the rest of the car.

its a bolt on non visible part, so they deemed it unnecessary to paint it body colour.

Maybe it is biegeish rather than greyish, I have cataracts and have had poor colour vision all my  life.

The red ones I had back in the day both had beige slam panels

My 89, 90, and 91 GTI’s all have the beige colour slam panel.

My 88 GTI has a grey slam panel. (Photo)

All appear to be original, and don’t appear to have been crashed/repaired.

Thats the grey Tom, I have looked at 8 cars on my drive, all from the 90`s half are black and half are grey. I dont think I have seen a beige one, TBH Its something I wouldnt notice, it keeps the bonnet shut and stops the radiator falling out would be all I notice:D
