XU10J2TE Piston ring gaps

Recommended Posts

Wondering how much to open up the ring gaps ?!

Will be running around 0.8 Bar , and mostly on LPG .

Block is sleeved back to standard bore spec , head and block resurfaced so compression ratio will be a tad higher but not much maybe 8.2 or 8.3 maxi .

Std. dished pistons , cast Mahle rings .

I cannot find factory specs for ring gaps , only these from XM Haynes manual which is mainly for NA engines but it's the only one which includes at least some 2.0 T engine stuff

Top compression ring - 0.2 to 0.4 mm

Second compression ring - 0.15 to 0.35 mm

Looks to me little bit too tight for boosted engine , seems like specs for NA engine .

Hmm , little bit too big ?

Not sure how much LPG makes the difference compared to petrol .

Some similar 86 bore engines :

Nissan SR20DET

Top .017in

Second .019in

Opel/Vauxhall C20LET

Not specific but in the .011-.019in range

Any info how much it was for the T16 ?

None XU10J2TE OE specs that i can find , not even a factory manual/PDF for that engine just for the NA XU10J2 .

I don't think it's too big. Just safe. You can easliy add more boost if desired.
