205gti 1990 gti Door locking actuator 'runs' on

Recommended Posts

When locking from the drivers side say (both with key and pulling on the switch), the passenger side lock seems to run on and sometimes does not appear to lock that side.
This is the same situation for unlocking too, actuator runs on and does not unlock.
In both cases the actuator runs on for about 1-1.5 seconds.

Sometimes the key also does not lock both sides. A 'definitive' turn of the key does appear to lock everything, including the boot.

Is there some sort of adjustment to sort this out?

Have applied some lithium grease to the various pts and nothing appears to catch, its smooth in operation (or appears to be). Any tips on this appreciated too.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Is the lock pin that pokes up catching on the door card , my passenger one doesn't open at times and I think that's the issue

You mean the one that sticks out above the door vertically?

If so no, as I removed the trim to test, apply lithium grease etc.

The strange thing is nothing functionally changed as it was working fine then started to misbehave. Operating manually, it feel smooth.  I cannot see any obvious 'adjustment' area/threaded section etc.

Thanks Leslie, Yes thats the only thing left as at my wits end :-)

The short rods at the lock mechanism are the likely culprits if that...was also thinking i might remove actual locking mech and see how that integrates.

after which will swap and see what gives. A threaded rod would have been so neat...oh well.

There is some kind of clutch mechanism inside the actuator so that you don't drive the motor when you manually operate the lock. When it fails to disengage you can clearly feel the drag and hear the gear noise while operating it manually.

Maybe for you it's the other way around and the "clutch" is slipping.

make sure the lever on the outer door handles are returning freely, if they aren't returning all the way due to a stiff pivot they can cause issues with the latch.

Thanks yes I lubed from 'outside' through slot and also inside. The handle has always moves freely (as far as i can see). This is one of the areas I lube each yr.
