‘89’ 1.9 8V Cambelt cover bolts

Recommended Posts

Mike

Hi,

I am looking for the special bolts required to fit new Cambelt covers to my 1989 1.9 8v GTI. I have purchased new Baker BM covers but need the special 7mm shoulder bolt for the back of the block.

The part number for the bolt on Spoox website is 0324.24. (I believe this is the correct part) I have spent hours searching but not managed to find any in-stock online.

Does anyone have any of these available or could advise where I could find them?

Can someone also please confirm whether the bolts for the lower cover behind the bottom pulley are also special bolts? Two I believe, are they 6mm or 7mm? Perhaps the same as the one on the back of the block?

I would like to have everything in place before starting the Cambelt replacement as I will not be able to leave the car in bits whilst waiting for parts.

Thanks in advance.

If so, they're M6 and you can use XU9J4 and XU10J4 parts. They aren't always one piece, as shown. A crush tube was also used.

No, not those. They are for the later engine covers I believe?

It is these....

I thought the ones behind crank pulley were just flange nuts with no shoulder as there is very little room in there  but its been a while since i fitted mine so cant be sure

I think you could be right with the ones behind the crank pulley. Thanks for the link, that is helpful. Just need to find someone that has them spare now :-)

The other one I need is number 10. Weirdly it says it is a 7mm self tap screw.

Yes i think 10 is the shouldered bolt , problem is these images  were basically hand drawn back in the day  so the actual pic may not be what they look like in all cases.
