Great progress bud , re a speedo cable beware they often don't come the ball fitted which you need plus there are lhd and rhd ones too , had same issues trying to get one , its on my thread.

Cheers Leslie ill have a look, i know pug1off do a decent set of new cables so will probably end up making a hybrid one with a new cable but an old ball :D

So with shutdown finally over at work, time to get on with fitting the small pile of parts that had gathered over the last 8 weeks !

Rear caliper fitting kits : Discs, pads, mounting bolts pads and flexi brake hoses all had to be bought ... coated ( in the case of the brackets) and finally fitted as again this car came with ... cobwebs :D

The remaining Baker BM brake lines also finally could be fitted, still need a set of dampers though !

Handbrake cables came courtesy of pug1off and seem a decent purchase, no more hanging cables and cable tied bits with the bakers cable clips to hold them in place !

Also set the ride height on the rear beam finally, hoping to match the height on the laser with a setting of 315mm between damper bolts ( id not taken note of its measurement from 2024 which was annoying ) easy enough to adjust though as the bars and splines are well greased ( Or that's the hope

That lot went and fitted a lot faster than id expected ... so onto the rear bumper  ! Valance retrieved from the depths of the garage rafters after it had sat there for getting on for a year :o ( time seems to pass very quickly when it comes to these type of projects ) ready for fitting this coming weekend.

Well that was supposed to upload with the last one ... far less parts piled up now, interior looking a lot more complete and hopefully soon be onto the seat mounting points !

Once she has a fuel pump fitted the rear seats can finally go in, possibly the first time since 2005/6 ish  !

Few from this weekends 'quick wins ' section as im now running out of parts to fit and need to await more !

With the bumper already prepped last weekend and the bolts fitting perfectly in the slightly dodgy section .. on it went ! Bonus reversing light also fitted but a dodgy female crimp means this isn't finished just yet :/

Also fitted the clocks id appropriated and the speedo cable ( minus ball for now but that will get sorted later) meaning the dash is now pretty much able to be fully screwed in !

processed-A2F2861C-90DF-468C-B6CA-A59E5C4B9012.thumb.jpeg.246712562b6033c038391a6b33b566d1.jpegprocessed-3BED286A-6EB5-44BB-8C28-7FA9A9E308B5.thumb.jpeg.9fe19eb1513e339baf6bd0364585a70f.jpeg

Couple more bits added to the engine bay area aswell including

New clutch cable, shiny exhaust heat shield & cleaned brake fluid reservoir... i'm going to be gutted when this all gets dirty haha

processed-02C77513-FE90-47CD-9B62-C0B07CE83F6F.thumb.jpeg.bc5e0e1ab80141365c45ae79822567a2.jpegprocessed-14D2D1E7-8310-456D-B481-F342B32D09BE.thumb.jpeg.ccb86ded7d5dd759d67c57e62c444fbd.jpeg

No pics but also managed to crack off  the head bolts on the engine, this was a job id not been looking forward too as they didn't seem like they were going to move very easily.

Few weeks for cleaning any crap dirt and debris away form the heads with a brush ... then plenty of liberal coats of ac90 again every time id been in doing jobs .... did the job and loose they came !

Will be starting stripping this when the back area i have is fully clear of bits to strip the engine onto and get it cleaned and rebuilt over this winter.

Hopefully should be getting a new wooden garage in the next few months which will help for working areas too, as attacking an engine on a stand with breaker bars  6 inches from your laser 205 gti rear quarter is slightly worrying :D

Lovely mate like the grey carpet , damn hard to get a gti one , Get a headstud and oil it and wind it up and down all the head bolt threads till they are nice and free to screw by hand and remember the one over the waterpump is shallower than the rest .

Cheers :) and yeah was glad i managed to get one (not a huge fan of the red tbh) .

Ill be doing that all all the other ones over the winter while its getting built back up, not taking any chances of stripped threads or awkward bolts when it goes back in.

Will need a vapor blasting once its in bits though first

Full set of mint trims !

Looking through the forum again no ones actually done a guide with photos on how these fit ... so here goes

Starting with the drivers door you have sets of pins as shown in the pics, each of the lower sets needs the clip type in the photo fitting.

This allows the door molding to be hooked underneath and pushed up into position. One of the pins acts as a locator ( in this molding its to the right near the end ) and has a little hole it sits in.

IMG_5884.jpegIMG_5886.thumb.jpeg.5e140f5fc61aeff4e99569ba0ef7666e.jpeg

The ones i've fitted were a little stiff to push up into place and needed some persuasion from the rubber end of a hammer and a plastic trim tool to press the U shaped middle part in enough for the rivet to slide over.

Once done ... slide the molding starting from the right up and hook one at a time of the clips into the deep fin shaped piece on the bottom of the door molding.

From this point its a case of now sliding the metal trim clips into position over the exposed rivets in the middle of the trim ..... as shown. The small yellow clips have a bigger hook type section and a smaller section, the bigger 'hookier' part goes to the bottom.

IMG_5889.thumb.jpeg.f2e2bd552150ef4a4d4c90bc45329ab1.jpeg IMG_5890.thumb.jpeg.37ba94d1cbd335f2918c5f8efa02a102.jpeg

Final part is to slide the metal red trim piece in from ( in this case the drivers arch side toward the rear of the door, i slightly opened out the channel on the top and bottom of this to allow it to slide in easier. A small pick or hook type tool helps a lot with this to get it to slide over each piece.

Next Part was the rear arch same side,

Sliding trim clips first in place again same as the door. Then through trial and error the small black grommets are needed to be pushed in to these specific holes as shown

IMG_5893.thumb.jpeg.3b4f3bf8e837c587648ec15089022162.jpegIMG_5894.thumb.jpeg.cb6c8c838a8bdb8936fc3313d90af50e.jpeg

Now the arch needs prepping with its respective fixings types, in this case from left of pic to right its : Christmas tree ; Smooth : Smooth : Christmas tree. Ideally try it up for size first before pushing them on as its not good to have to rip back out.

IMG_5895.thumb.jpeg.dea62a2ffb666daa1cbab0d6b921221e.jpegIMG_5896.thumb.jpeg.63d3abe4fef6084195f41a14e7f7227a.jpeg

And on ! ... once the rest are pushed home two of the star washers are needed for the tube parts formed into the arch and now poking through to pull tight to the bodywork. Trim fitting again same as before with a lot of patience and a pick tool ... one side looking :wub:

One more step closer to being finished ( although a fair way to go yet ! )

IMG_5902.thumb.jpeg.e372633ab31a84ee0d9a40189b0d9d32.jpegIMG_5901.thumb.jpeg.36383a46e3864937327dc47c7e49067b.jpeg

And finally a fog light was also fitted this weekend :D, need the rear bumper red trim now and the rear 1/4 badges.

The front arches are ready to fit but need the bumper on first ... which is also ready to fit but i need to fit the rad fans ... and so on !

On a side note this also turned up at the start of the month

Work will start once the Miami is complete, hence me wanting to reopen the 405 section of the forum, if not ...hopefully a 405 related build thread will be allowed in here.

Have wanted one for quite some time and luckily comes with a lot of new parts to rebuild / refresh, goes without saying she needs a full strip down and repaint.

Looking sharp now !

I found those metal clips on the doors its best to put the rivet in the clip then rivet it on , makes it a million times easier and has to be how they did it at the factory  , I tried your way first and bust several rivets off as they were fitted new  with the huge forces needed and you could easily gouge out your new paint  , I see your rivets were already fitted but otherwise id do it the easy way.

The red trims just clip on ,no need to slide In from the side I found  I had the clips upside down at first and it took a lot of force to fit them them pinged off again soon after as you say the clips have a right way up  :D Its all a learning process !

Those 2 little unique front wing clips are even more fun to fit  you can't buy them separate either like all the other clips  if you bust one , i warmed mine with the hairdryer and put trim spray on them to make them side in as they could easily crumple your wing if you push too hard.

If you get the bumper red trims from retro race and rally like mine beware original clips are no good ( as the bumper trim is a thinner width  from Peugeot originally but the retro ones  the door and bumpers are all the same width probably for ease of manufacture and the metal spring clips they sell are also shi*e, I found the black fir tree ones fit the groove and the bumper ok but you need to try them in the bumper a little first as if any are are too tight you will kink the trim when they stick halfway in.Also spray the clips with trim spray and warm them a bit to soften them .I dunno if any of that helps but I wish id have read it before fitting mine !!!!!!!

id like to see the 405 resto , seems its a rare beast with only 500 made id never heard of it but the thought of another resto gives me nightmares lol

Yeah id not wanted to press on them incase i dented them, soo hard to get decent trims now ! And yeah the ones on the 1.1 are the retro race & rally trims which ill need to fettle at some point as the rear arch is parting company with the car.

Haha tbh i'm starting to enjoy these resto's now ... but it also means things i've now done to this id like to do to the laser ... can of worms  ! The only bad thing i can see is the 405 isn't anywhere near as well supported parts wise as the 205 is ( Brake lines for one ) but its  challenge !

Again just hope i'm allowed to start a thread ... or get the 405 section resurrected from the grave :D

So ... nice parts runout on friday just gone to larkspeed in Leeds and i finally have the Gaz coilovers for the front , good excuse to give the TD a runout ... via the little Peugeot shop at Knottingley and Dave at Sc*nthorpe ...

IMG_6050.thumb.jpeg.7ef483b035404471347e8ee9e2a815ec.jpeg

Lovely day for it !

Returned with a few bits including a couple that id not expected to find ... the red rear strips for one ... which meant that the rear now looks like this

IMG_6071.thumb.jpeg.61a7ab746e0d72125469105243f3a4c0.jpegIMG_6068.thumb.jpeg.6651191319ba807b805b8bdb6db73295.jpeg

Very slight kink in it but tbh ... i can live with that !  looking a world apart from this time last year

Also planning ahead id ordered the front bumper mounting brackets and sliders to ( hopefully get that on too... lets have a go) !

 IMG_6090.thumb.jpeg.e9b3c45143a5a9cd8652e7bab3dccd6a.jpeg

Little bit of a fiddle to get on ... namely with the captive bolts on the end being slightly tight to fit through through the body square hole ( probs due to the new panels id had fitted being very slightly out ), but a bit of creative thinking and they're on .... at this point the bumper is getting eyed up and i just want to see what its like on now haha...

(note the extremely high tech tow eye paint protective device fitted.... yes it is a sock:D  )

IMG_6091.thumb.jpeg.b54ebbfdba68bb0b14af253ca915faa2.jpegIMG_6093.thumb.jpeg.74d545f719ca679a1dffa2590d850d3c.jpeg

Yeah ... that's made a huuuuge difference ! Little bit of messing about to do still with the lights alignments and things ( i also have the horn to fit id remembered once the bumper and lights were on haha ), ill be needing a mint red strip for the front now to do this justice

And finally ... the fuel pump was also fitted and piped up ! lot easier to do this next time with the tank off and put the pump in and pipes on before the tank is fitted ... good to know for next time ( haha ), also managed to get the little things like a bung for the firewall ... the bolt from the wiper motor and the vacuum sunroof box and pipework.

Means once the scuttle panel is cleaned the lot can be bolted down and that's another section boxed off !

Parts storage area is starting to look a lot more empty, 30 mins / an hour a day seems to work wonders with projects like this :)

Little more smaller progress this weekend with the doors, the drivers one has been sat ' hanging ' with no opening / closing mech in for ages which is kind of annoying when it can randomly swing open in a breeze. Time to sort it out !

First thing needed was a decent bit of protection for the door ... cue some carefully applied masking tape

IMG_6167.thumb.jpeg.5d0acaaf2ae8b87761a91187a75ec282.jpegIMG_6169.thumb.jpeg.5d057921c1384d0e907571965bf83350.jpeg

Id planned again to do a little ' how too ' with this but tbh ... it just slots in from the left hand side first ... give it a bit of pushing down ... and its in !

IMG_6171.thumb.jpeg.c894dbcc776cedd01d43f770ad1b7e3a.jpegIMG_6172.thumb.jpeg.8a39c106ec21c93f7bc3e4010447591f.jpeg

Door lock was a little bit more fiddly and also i had to check which was the lock went in so it actuated the soon to be fitted lock mech in the right way, 'valeo' to the left/to the back  for future reference

IMG_6173.thumb.jpeg.94ce140e14a7ae93772cde526c1adee2.jpeg

Of course that went far too well so something was due to go wrong ... and it did when the door pin was introduced :(, the clip had been in the wrong hole .. meaning he door pin was too low ... caught on the door lip ... and the casualty was the door lock plastic .. thing .

Luckily i had the passenger side to swap it with but one more now needed.

So for some reason the rest of the photos wont upload ... so all i can show is the cleaned inner door lock mech after a hour in the ultrasonic cleaner  :/

IMG_6235.thumb.jpeg.681f27646fba8248916f8ccf2103a8b1.jpeg

Few more bits again arrived from various places and back form powder coating !

So yesterday was GAZ coil over fitting time !

Once again .... zero instructions came with them which is slightly annoying ... also couldn't seem to find anything on here , quick call to GAZ made things a little clearer but again ... probably would have been nice to come with a simple drawing ! Anyways ... photos !

IMG_6262.thumb.jpeg.85908bcc95a31bb7ea96c68a31eb1b3b.jpegIMG_6264.thumb.jpeg.1f51ace502e45590097552e1be141095.jpeg

All laid out in the top photo in order of fitment, so .... GAZ spring cup adaptor > SKF top mount bearing > 205 top mount plate > SKF rubber bush > TOP mount fitting plate and finally small cup with nut !

 Very Shiny :D

With those now in place a couple more little engine bay bits can be finally fitted ( like the powder coated relay box holder that had been sat there since ... january ).

Seems a lot of progress was made this week .. so onto the passenger door lock !  This has opened a massive can of worms as there seems to be two different sizes of the phase 2 door pins if anyone can shed any light on that ?

IMG_6247.thumb.jpeg.1a40db85af6e1c67af8042a556468f7e.jpeg

I ended up fitting the smaller one on the right as it seemed to fit the door better with the actuator etc installed, but random that there are two types ?

Yeah true, although I know exactly where these doors came from as it had literally

nothing on it to begin with haha. ( overspray is from where I’m was too lazy to remove that lock before I sent it for painting
