Cti and Gti running gear differences

Recommended Posts

I’ve just put my CTI G reg in for an MOT and it failed on the lower ball joints. Looking for replacement lower control arms and had a surprise that they are standard 205 arms and not GTI arms. I always thought that the CTI was the same running gear as the GTI. It’s a 1.6.

Out of interest, does anyone know what else is not common?

Thanks,

Dean

The Cti is really just gti interior although the rear seats are not interchangeable afaik and body kit . There are probably other differeces I just dont know.

Even betwen 1.6 and 1..9 gti the front driveshafts ,hubs , front and rear brakes and axle are all different.

The CTI is quite different to GTI. Track control arms like a base model. The rear beam torsion and anti roll bars are also smaller than GTI I think.

As Tom said the rear beams are a lesser spec.  They have a smaller anti roll bar than a GTI, so this is an easy upgrade

All convertibles have the big rear beam like the automatic and the F, torsion bars may vary to match the non-GTI front.

Peugeot used regular arms on the CTI to make it less obvious that the shell wasn't stiff enough.

They did use 1.6 hubs and brakes so the CTI is better than the GT/XS but not as good as a true GTI.

Thanks for the responses.

I had 2 GTI’s back in the day, but the CTI is in my budget. I guess one benefit of the standard control arms is that they are only 27 pounds each and here on Friday. Bargain. Been a 7 year restoration, so nearly there. I was going to do the rear beam in the winter.

Never driven it before, so was disappointed to have crunching gears between 2nd and 3rd. Assume the synchro is worn. Another job for the winter.

Thanks once again for all the posts.
