Recommended Posts

Hi all another  question. I've got a slight oil leak from my sump is it best to use a gasket  or  a rtv sealant.

Depends on the engine , a 1.9 Gti needs both as it  has a sump spacer , the gasket is between the tin sump and alloy spacer.

I think just rtv will be fine for a 1.6

Some oil pan screws are not the same length, if you mix and match on reassembly you can have a recurring leak.

Gasket plus wellseal, the key is going round the bolts with a torque wrench over a couple of days as the gasket progressively settles. Do it just once and it will leak is my experience.
