Checking for a bent rear shock absorber

What's the best way to check for one of these?

I have checked by a dial gauge on the rod and turning it through 360 degrees and checking the runout, but not sure how much runout constitutes "bent"/"out of spec"?

Have one showing less than 1 thou but the other is 5 thou.
