Hello Folks

I am the new one to the Forum, let me quickly introduce my self. My name is Lukas and i am from Switzland.

So, lets go to the more intresting stuff. I have a 205 Gti with the XU9JA1 engine in it.

Currently is a Bosch (0 237 009 051) distributor in it.

The unit is in pretty bad condition and i want to replace it but i am unsure which model would be the right one.

I also think this isnt the right one thats currently in it.

Thank you in advance, Lukas

is it a J1 or a JA?   can't be both!

XU9J1 used the 051 distributor, XU9JA used the 066 unit.

I don't think they ever had the JA in Switzerland, more like the JAZ but this one is using a simple distributor.

Hi and thank you.

Its the XU9J1, it has the coil mounted on the left side near the washer bottle.

So i have to find a 051 distributor, hmm...

Is it possible to take one from a XU9JA?

The difference in the dizzies is the centrifugal springs. The lower comp J1 pulls in advance earlier. Your car will run fine with the JA version. However, if you’re a perfectionist, you could swap over the springs.

What about the vacuum advance module? That usually fails and  people have no idea, other than poor fuel economy.

Thank you Peter. I am not a perfectionist, i just want that my car runs. Today i started it up after a long time and it runs fine, after couple minutes it just shot off. Put back on ignition and there was no prime from the fuel pump to hear. So i was thinking there is something wrong with the distributor. Jackpot, after pulling it apart a saw some metalflakes inside and also some bent magnets. i think it came from wornout bearings.

Thanks SRDT, i will ckeck it out.

I will check also the Tachymetric relay, Thanks welshpug.

The Car was running not too bad the last Times, but also had some light cutouts at idle.

But this Problem, that the Car just Shut off is new.

Lets see, i found a Distributor from a Scrapyard and i will report with some good or bad news.

Thank you for the tips

Car is running again, Yeah

I cleaned the distributor, removed all metalshavings, bent  the "spider" back where it should be. The other Distributor that i found was a Ducellier, so no match. Anyway, Car is running
