Horn/Rear window heater not working

Recommended Posts

Steve205

Morning all.

I have a frustrating problem.

I have a phase 1.5 , 1989 1.6gti.

Horn  and rear window heater are not working.  Changed fuse (no.8), no joy.

Switched relay (green 1 on far roght of board) with same 1 on other side of fuse board,  no joy. Relay clicks as it should.

Light on rear window heater switch works but goes out when you push button.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Thanks.

Stephen

Cigarette lighter is disconnected since I got car. Never connected it, French electrics are flakey enough without adding more to them.

I'm assuming the 3 items ( rear window heater/ horn / lighter ) on  this fuse are not working.

The horn has been intermittent in past at times but was working fine til yesterday.....

Check the link on my post, it's a common problem.

If you urgently need a working horn to pass inspection an in-line fuse holder and two crimped terminals can save the day, that's also a good way to confirm that the problem is on the fuse box.

Thank you for that.

Have read through link. Seems to be exactly the same problem as I have.

Thank you.

Have you tested for voltage at each end? Turn the rear heater switch on and measure the voltage at the terminals at either side of the rear screen

Was driving car yesterday.  Horn and rear window heater miraculously working again. Definitely seems to be sporadicly stopping.  Looks more and more like the fuse board issue as linked by SRDT above. Will have to book her into an auto-electrician. The fuse board fix is way above my capabilities.  I will probably blow everything else, if I try it myself. Hopefully he'll sort issue without causing more trouble.

For now it's working......for now.

Thanks again.
