Front Brake Upgrading - MC and servo

Recommended Posts

Gohn

I've recently improved the front brakes but aren't sure if I should have upgraded the brake booster/servo and the Master Cylinder while I was at it

standard 205 Si got the front solid disks with bendix calipers and the braking is not good

I then changed to ventilated TD disks (247mm) and Bendix TD calipers, which was a little better

and finally improved the braking again by putting on Girling GTi calipers

its much better

if I matched the 1.9GTi calipers with the appropriate MC and brake booster will it improve the brakes even further ?

not sure what MC or brake booster the Si or 1/9GTi came with ?

the catalog suggests the Master Cylinder was either 19mm or 20.6mm

and the booster/servo could be either 200mm or 225mm ?

how do I check ?

thanks in advance

ø19 or ø20.6 are correct but you'll get a much better pedal with a ø22 m/cylinder from a 306. I wouldn't worry about the booster size. Add quality pads and braided lines for the best feel.

great thanks peter,

so I'll look for the 22mm MC , no1 in the pic #4601H6,

got braided lines a while ago (which didn't seem to make much difference)

also got some new bosch pads with the new calipers (dont know how good they are against other brands but they were way cheap)

is it just a straight swap over, out with the old MC and slot in the new one ?

looks to have the same 4 brake lines but any adjustments required or will it foul my camcover or anything ?

can I still use my current reservoir ?

the pic is from the 306 catalog

cheers

update ..

couldn't find the 306 version but

I've found an MC, #460198 from a 405 (not bought it yet)

but its spec'd for ABS models which I obviously dont have

will that make any difference ? should I be lookin for non ABS 22mm MC instead ?

thanks

Would a 306 gti6 not fit directly? They are ø23,8 mm
