Spesh 28 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2022 This is new to me, but I suspect not to all of you. I bought a xsara vts box with a smashed 3rd and worked to rebuild it but use a diesel 3rd and 4th set that, ratio wise, is super close. However it seems there's more than one type of output shaft spline arrangement. The xsara shaft is almost fully splined and the 3/4 gearset is splined at both ends. The derv shaft is only splined at the top and the 3/4 gearset is splined at one end only. The spline size also differs as does the actual tooth size so I'm guessing this is an early Vs late thing? SRDT 146 Posted October 5, 2022 The last BE3 also had it that way, the BE3 and BE4 existed alongside for years unlike the clear transition from BE1 to BE3. The shaft on the left is also longer and that is probably BE4 specific.
welshpug 1,622 Posted October 5, 2022 If the spline count is the same then the double spline shaft is BE3r, if its different then BE4r
