mmatthej1 1 Posted July 12, 2022 Feeling a bit daft but I can't find where the ECU is positioned in 1.9 GTI - can anyone guide me, please?
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted July 12, 2022 (edited) It is on the firewall inside the car. It has been a while though so I don't remember if it is passenger's or driver's side. Found this with a search: Ecu Location - Topics from 2008 - 205GTIDrivers.com Worth using the search function on here, there are LOT of old posts that contain a lot of answers Edited July 12, 2022 by Rob_the_Sparky
mmatthej1 1 Posted July 12, 2022 Thank you, I will look for it right now! (I did try search for 'ECU' but, surpisingly, nothing came up !)
petert 554 Posted July 12, 2022 It's hidden right up there, under the dash, drivers side. Annoyingly, the mounting plate is retained by one of the dash retaining bolts which go through the firewall.

pug_ham 241 3 Cars Posted July 13, 2022 Where Tom says, up under the lower dash panel by your right knee as you sit in the drivers seat, you have to lay over the sill with the door open to see it, tachymetric relay is usually by it too. g
mmatthej1 1 Posted July 14, 2022 Thanks all - actually, my interest in the ECU has waned, as I gather that it plays no part in controlling the ignition spark, lack of which is my current problem ! (I will raise that as a separate post/query)

That depends whether it's Jetronic (1.9 non-CAT) or Motronic (1.9 CAT) - the former is fuel only, the latter controls both fuel and ignition.
