205gti instrument binacle

Recommended Posts

I am building a project 205gti and (hopefully) coming to the end of what has been a 7 year project. Frustratingly, I don't happear to have all of the symbols lighting up on the instrument binacle or a back light just battery, indicators and main beam.  All but one of the small bayonet bulbs are in place and I'm assuming they're all unlikely  to be blown.  Has anyone else had this problem and can point me in the direction of sorting it, hopefully without trying to source a 'new' one?

Thanks in advance.

Is the dimmer plugged in on the steering cowling?

go thru the obvious first, check each plug is properly connected

maybe also check the circuit sheet is not broken or cracked etc

but also, another owner a while back had very similar symptoms

it was just a whole bunch of the little push in bulbs had blown somehow, so it can happen

(and if you take them out to look its almost impossible to tell if they're blown or not)

Thanks for the response. I'll check all this again today. Can you purchase the little bulbs these days? If the circuit sheet is broken is there a fix or is that a binacle replace?

Cheers

dont know if you can fix a cracked circuit sheet, I just assume its cactus

I inherited a broken one that had been mistreated so its less likely to be what's causing your dash brownout

an auto electrician should have the little bulbs for about $1/50p a pop, or you can get a pack online for about the same

from memory they're 1.2W, its printed on them but you almost need a microscope to read it

Thanks for this   I plugged in the  dashboard  dimmer switch and now have back-light so getting there!

When I turn the ignition  key I have a fuel tank empty light (which is correct) and the battery light. Should I see any other lights at this stage please? I suspect  handbrake warning light would be one I should see.

I know main beam and indicators dashboard  lights work.

The little owners handbook lists it down

turning the key to your FIRST click (Accessories) you should get :

Oil Pressure Lamp , Top Left

Water Temp Lamp, Bottom Right

Battery Lamp, Centre Column

STOP Lamp, Centre Column

- I get the Low Fuel Lamp here too not mentioned by the book, my bulb needs replacing

key to the SECOND click you should get:

Oil Pressure

Water Temp

Battery

STOP

Handbrake Lamp

Diagnostic (Top Left of Speedo dial)

- my diagnostic lamp doesn't show here (pretty sure its cause mines been converted to Dturbo)

THIRD click's ignition:

everything should drop out once the engine fires (unless your handbrake's on)
