Camshaft cap / Cam cover stripped thread

Hello

 

The centre bolt that helps hold down the cam cover on my XU5J no longer tightens/grips as the thread has stripped in the camshaft cap.

 

Is it okay to try and re-thread the cap using a Helicoil.

Yes, just do it carefully.

I got mine welded up as there wasn't much left to thread into and it had cracked . then retapped after ,a piece of copperpipe was clamped on the bearing surface to control the heat and it worked out fine. I ground it down in a pillar drill with a roloc disc .
