Wipers - driver side travel angle to big - off the windscreen

Recommended Posts

RABen

The driverside wiper of my '89 205 gti is getting pushed off the windscreen over the rubber at still legal speeds.

Alreadyy put the wiper against the lower rubber on the lower turning / rest point but it still happens.

There is some play - I presume in the mechanism.

Before starting to take things apart - I am wondering if this is a common thing on the 205 and if there is anything that can be adjusted/replaced to take the play out.

Any help/insight much appreciated!

Sounds like You have  the wiper linkage on the wrong way, the levers at the bottom of the spindles are a different  length I think

Agreed the wiper levers are slightly different length side to side.

Or the spindle/housing is badly worn.   I had to get a good s/h one to cure mine'

Indeed the wiper-axle-arms are of unequal length - difference is only 3mm or so.

The shortest arm has a hole drilled in it (halfway the arm) - I presume this hole is standard?

Switched them around (shortest to driver side - LH on my LHD) and all solved ...

Thanks - would not have noticed this myself!
