Cam Belt Cover Rattle

Hey, sometimes at certain RPM i hear a rattle noise from the engine which the previous owner told me was the metal cam belt cover. He tightened the cover and did some bending or something before I bought the car off him and it doesn't make the rattle as much but it still makes the rattle sometimes when coming down off the revs or even revving up in certain gears. Any ideas how to stop the noise or has anyone experienced this noise before?

Sounds odd, I've never experienced a rattle from that cover.  If it is tight then it can not rattle, I think I'd take what you have been told with a pinch of salt and do some of your own investigation to try to determine the source of the noise.

For example, if you get someone to hold the cover and rev, it doesn't make the noise. But the cover seems tight which is what is weird.

I had similar on one of my cars, but like you, all the fixings were tight and nothing obviously looked amiss, bent or like it was catching/rubbing.

 

In terms of a resolution, I'm afraid I can't say that I looked into it particularly closely - I just fitted the later plastic upper belt cover and that resolved the issue.
