My 1.9 cam is fine condition wise, so will I see a worthwhile improvement if I fit the Cat Cams shaft?

I'd say not much to justify the expense of the aftermarket performance cam .

Ideally if there's some other engine mods like , ported head , better inlet/exhaust , lightened balanced bottom end , higher compression ratio ... then add to that performance cam it'll work very well as an package and will certainly be noticeable difference .

Engine mods are best done in pair of a few in the same time , like 3 things/mods in a row .

Finally , found 115Hp 1.6 B6D cam (actually found a few from 1.6 rebuild threads , all with this the same single paint mark) :

Been looking on here for info on 1.6 Gti Cams - Hence the resurrect. It seems the information of the identification larks might be lost for the 1.6.

I have a Cam (2n'd hand) I was told was from a 1.6GTi. It has a single paint Identification ring but next to the inlet valve lobe on Cylinder 3. (that shows it next to cylinder 2)

Anyone care to post up pics of your 1.6 GTI without the cam cover?

Have you tried identifying by valve lift? It's fairly easy to measure with a pair of verniers. I think the B6D cam should be 11.5mm and the rest 9.7mm.

Sounds about right I measured 48mm inlets and 47mm exhaust over lobes. I planned to measure the lift in situ, but realised my DTI hasn't the range.

Mine has a single band on cyl 3 see below.

This way is easy with verniers, for a quickie. It's just B-C.
