Rally trip wheel sensor fitting help

I have a rally trip wheel sensor to fit to the 205. I have mounted these previously to a mini using the speedo cable sensor and put one on a friends escort and used the prop with 4 tabs welded onto it. I prefer the wheel sensors as think they are more accurate on a non driven wheel rather than on the driven wheels via a prop or the speedo cable.

 

What have others done on the 205's? had a very quick look last night and seems drilling through the backplate of the rear drum and picking up the heads on the wheel studs (car runs the PTS stud conversion) might work but without taking the drum off and looking not sure the heads would sit prod enough to pick up?

 

also I am sure I have seen on here that someone welded tabs onto the drum and used these as a pick up, I cannot for the life of me find it via searching.

 

If anyone has a setup they'd share it would be appreciated.

There isn't room to get the probe past all the gubbins inside the drum, I tried. I tig brazed 2 tabs on the exterior of the drum and make a bracket for the probe and welded it to the backplate. Works well done a few events like that now.

I assume the Brantz M18x1.5 gearbox adapter doesn't fit?

Hi all - hope everyone had a great Christmas :P

 

Sorry to resurrect this old post :rolleyes:......but was wondering if any one else out there  has successfully fitted a Brantz wheel sensor to a disc braked rear beam on a 205 please......and might possibly have some images that they could share please and provide some inspiration  :D:D

Disc brakes are a lot easier, you can look at the back of the wheel studs (if you have them fitted). Just a case of making a bracket to suit to hold the sensor.

I’ve looked and I haven’t got a photo of how I did it. But my rear brakes are different from standard anyway so wouldn’t be how anyone else would do it.

As someone else said above sorry to resurrect this subject again. 
I am fitting a Brantz international pro2 trip meter to my 205 Gentry 1.9. Girling Discs on the front and Girling drums on the rear (standard Gentry setup). 
1. it appears you can not get the sensor that fits between the speedo cable and speedometer  

2. it also appears you can not use the sensor that goes in the middle of the cable because you can not withdraw the inner cable which then allows you to cut the outer cable and insert the sensor clamp. 
3. you can not use the sensor that screws onto the gearbox end because the speedo cable has its own bespoke clip. 
 

4 the only alternative is a standard wherl sensor but never having fitted one of these I can not see how it picks up on the front disc wheel studs which seem to be deep in the hub??

 

Any help would be appreciated

That is how I did it. Typically the trip wheel speed sensor is considered more accurate  on an undriven wheel.

Hi Tom,

you appear to have so welded 2 tabs onto one of the rear drums. I’m sure I read somewhere you needed 4 points for the Brantz wheel sensor?? Cant remember. Tho that certainly looks a doable option. 
other forums Ive looked at talk about it being easier to use the brake disc.?

The sort of stuff I’ve done in the past won’t result in wheel spin so if I can get asay without welding Im happy to uses the front discs but not sure how. Gives me one option tho
