Most suitable Bilstein B4 + Eibach setup for 205 XS

Recommended Posts

Parro205XS

Hi!

I'm Tiago from Portugal and proud owner of a Peugeot 205 XS project car.

I've found this two options of Bilstein B4's + Eibach and would like to know which one is the best setup for my car to hoon around on some twisty roads.

"Normal" GTI suspension set:

Fast road setup with equivalent 306 GTI-6 at the front and Xsara rear dampers:

And about the Eibach springs to match...

GTI springs:

Base model springs:

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure the original setup is not suitable ?

Peugeot set the various 205 models up really well, both the base model and GTi versions (and XS too) were well designed and tested

you can still get used susp parts, either from 205's or also the original 306GTi shocks are well liked and they are way cheaper than aftermarket

why not 'project' it to original setup ?

The aftermarket shocks and springs look great, but Im not convinced they are as good as the originals nor "equivalent" to them

but haven't track raced or tried the various Bilstein/Eibach options on offer though

good luck on the XS

(I inherited a set of adjustable Koni shocks on a car and they were terrible

as soon as bought a dusty dull looking old black original set for about $40 it was great again)

Hi Gohn!

Thanks for your reply.

The condition of my project car when bought was very far from good so the idea was not true original oem thing but use PSA parts.

At least in my country is not easy to find used Peugeot original shocks in good condition, so aftermarket seems to be the way to go.

Do you think that 306 GTI shocks are a good setup?

Best regards!

not trying to discourage you any from the flash looking aftermarket setups..

you'll spend a bit but will enjoy the process testing them all etc

so all good

but if you hesitate a little possibly consider

go for an original XS setup, have a good look at what's on the car first..

(shocks/springs don't need to look good to work well)

testing the shocks is easy, nice smooth in and out means they're good,

and the springs will need to be awfully corroded before they need replacing

there's a peugeot 205 guy I've actually bought parts from in portugal

does lots of nick nacks but should have the larger suspension bits too

send you any details I can find on PM, he's probably over your back fence !

I'd only start going after GTi6 bits or aftermarket kits if you hit a definite wall trying to get the XS parts

the XS parts are carefully rated/weighted for the TU 1360cc engine

its all ironed out, no more to do, peugeot's already done it all for you

GTi6 shocks are great (I'm told have not tried personally)

good for 205GTi 1.9 and maybe 1.6 and Si 1.6l

but don't know for XS

Hi, thanks again!

Well the way to go for now is 205 GTI shocks front and rear with base model Eibach springs as the XS is lighter.

If some OEM suspension deal pops up at good price I can try it, otherwise Bilstein B4 is my choice.

Best regards
