Cooling upgrades

Hi lads,

 

I seem to be having some classic Peugeot cooling fan issues as its been off the road quite a while and seized up. I'm going to replace the current fan with a decent universal job and thermo switch. I store the car elsewhere and was just wanting to know if anyone knew off the top of their head the correct temp range for the fan to kick in? 

 

It's a 1990 954cc engine, also if anyone knows the inner diameter of the top radiator hose?

its possible u could get the original rad fan spinning nicely again and save replacing it with something of lesser quality

we dont have salt roads here so its not been a problem I've experienced, possibly you've already considered trying to save it though..

 

I could find what I think is your little 1990 TU 954cc top hose diagram, but no ID is quoted

get a caliper onto the rad outlet then subtract a mm or two for an approx guide

Must say i never had failing OE cooling fan , or heard of someone else having problems with it on a 205 all these years ... they're really robust/quality fans .

 

Thus perhaps second hand OE one could be better than cheaply made new aftermarket .. depends .

 

 

Cooling fan thermoswitch temp. rating will dictate when the fan will go on/off .. there's few variation of these available , as well as thermostats (little bit less , two/three variations maxi) ... pick thermostat first (or take a look which "C" thermostat you have fitted currently) then the thermoswich to go along with that thermostat "C" rating .

 

Internal dia. of the top hose is 30-to-31mm .

Cheers lads, really appreciate the help! Yea I think the fan is Kaput, I've had it hooked straight to a power source with no joy, sounds unhealthy when I was spinning it by hand. The car was standing for 20 years before I put it back on the road so that's probably done it no good. 

 

The replacement fan is from Stoney Racing, my mate put the same set up on his Capri and seems to be happy enough with it so I'll give it a go.
