Boot light staying on constantly?

Hi all

 

In process of fixing little bits and pieces on my Pug. Tracked my battery drain down to the boot light staying on all the time!

 

Unplugged the switch in the tailgate - still stays on

 

Fitted brand new switch - still stays on!

 

This all happens even with the key out of the ignition.

 

Anyone know how these circuits work?

 

Only wires are the green wire /earth (?) to the switch in the tailgate, and  on the bootlight itself, one red wire (live?) on one side of the connector and on the other side a green wire and a brown wire together.

 

Rear lights, wiper etc all work perfectly so don't think it's the rear earth blocks as never had an issue there.

Swap the glove box light (assuming it's not faulty) out with the boot one, they're the same, to eliminate the actual unit as the problem.

Sounds like the light itself is earthing out somewhere

The feed into the light being permanent live is presumably how things left the factory, makes sense that it's to allow the boot light to come on when the hatch is lifted regardless of whether the keys are in the ignition or not.

 

From what you've said so far it's pointing towards the possibility the earth from the light to the hatch switch is earthing continuously, worse case is it's chaffing somewhere hidden.

 

Try disconnecting the existing earth wire at the light and the switch, bypassing it by mocking up a substitute in its place.

Has started working again now strangely! The light needed to be earthed to the body on the little tab too it would appear! French electrics eh!
