Recommended Posts

I've been looking for a genuine front bumper to replace the non gen item fitted to my gti, ive found a base model bumper will it be a direct fit once i drill the holes for the front arches?

my situation was kind of reverse of yours but may be some assistance

bought a non GTi car (an Si) with a GTi front bumper and degraded arch and side trims

when I removed the GTi arch trims I found the GTi bumper finished about an inch short of where a normal standard bumper would,

the normal bumper has longer side portions and completes the curve of the wheel arch, so with the GTi bumper and no arch trim there was a notch in the wheel arch, bit like a broken tooth

its a longwinded way of saying I think the standard bumper may be a bit long to fit GTi arch trims snugly, but not positive

Cut the ends off the standard bumper and hey presto a GTI bumper!

Thanks Tom, we also need a replacement front bumper following the off at Pembrey.  Miles also suggested the cutting down of one from a base model, but we are struggling to visualize exactly where that would be cut  Is that what was done by Peugeot during the GTIs manufacture?

Would anyone have a picture of the two bumper types side by side?

just tried half a dozen times but getting the pics to here is beyond me

your base model bumper would be cut about 12mm shorter, following the existing end curve

however, notwithstanding my relative inexperience, I'm not sure it will work

the base model bumper is made to fit a thinner car width wise (the GTi's have beefier front qtr panels)

so the standard bumper may not fit to the GTi bumper bolt points

and the standard bumper might look odd under the wider panels

and the GTi bumper has two holes for the wheel arch trim to fix to, dont know if a drill will be ok

you can buy GTi bumpers although not sure if they're in stock

catalog part numbers

std - 740172

gti - 740173

hup, got it

you can see how the std bumper just slots in and completes the wheel arch curve

on the Gti the bumper is shorter and the wheel arch trim makes the curve

so on mine, instead of trying to buy or find a std bumper, I used the non original GTi bumper (that was put on by a prev owner) and part of the wheel trim to complete the wheel arch
