Mi16 head on XU10J4RS block

Recommended Posts

205gti6

Hello Members,

i owned a 205 that i swap to XU10J4RS, unfortunately i got the head cylinder, valve and one piston damged.

is it possible to replace the XU10J4RS head by an MI16 head on the XU10J4RS block ?

Any gain in power or its same ?

thanks

Nicholas

yes its possible, no i wouldn't do it, you'll lose a bit of compression ratio and lots of valve clearance, and gain oil issues.

I would fix the head if possible and get a set of oversize pistons.

As said, you can do it, but you really need to know what you’re doing. Mi16 valves and cams are bigger than GTi6, so you’ll probably have more bent valves.

@petert @welshpug thanks Friends, where i live its very difficult to find an XU10J4RS head, that’s why i thinking of the MI16.. as actually i already have an Mi16 and a XU10j4 head.

what about of putting the RS cam in the xu10j4 head ?

thanks

Impossible. They're physically different cams and heads. If you already have the other heads and you're capable, strip the engine and enlarge the piston pockets.

if you have a complete MI16 just put it in whole,  you mention XU10J4, do you mean the 2.0 Mi16 or the later 135 bhp xsi type engine?

If you have the xu10j4R head, you could use that. The valves are ever so slightly smaller and   the cams even milder, but the head architecture is the same as the RS ( separate cam housings etc). You could swap in your RS cams and then replace your damaged RS head with the R head

@Andy if i swap onlythe Rs cams in the xu10j4r head, there will be any lost in power?

does the rs cams will damage the valves ?

thanks

Just had an email from Peter Taylor. The RS cams have more lift than the R cams and may well coilbind the R springs, so delete my cam suggestion. The other issue that Peter points out is that the R inlet valves are slightly bigger than the RS ones, so the cutout in the piston might not be unite big enough. Nothing is simple.

@Andy ok i think better swap the complete head xu10j4(2.0mi16) on the block

R valves are the same diameter as Mi16, bigger inlet than RS.

There was some difference after the head swap.

Revved more easily and sounded like something made by Honda   . Had std ECU so probably was running lean.

Does OE xu10j4rs MLS head gasket fit on xu10j4 engine ?

Did anyone use this headgasket on turbo application?

There's no reason why you can't use an MLS gasket. The key to successful sealing when using MLS is surface finish, on both block and head. They both need to be perrrrfect. Tell your machinist you are using MLS.

Of course MLS gasket is better at sealing at higher cylinder pressures just wanted to know about OE Xu10j4rs gasket.

Does it fit on XU10j4 and people's experience with it?

I have Cometic but it's 86,5mm one and since I'm gonna bore to 87mm I was wondering to use Xu10j4rs gasket since it's gonna be on "mild" turbo application.
