Removing Valeo Headlight Lens

Recommended Posts

ob2s

has anyone successfully removed the glass lens from an OE Valeo headlight ? I had a deer remove mine, but reinstallation is not possible :-( I would like to make some modifications to internals of the headlights. Removing glass chards from the gasket was a challenge, so I am thinking maybe a heat gun would help ?

Thanks

I had a pair of driving lights I wanted to paint the lenses yellow, I stuck them in the oven ( whilst no one was home) at 100c, It heats up everything evenly. I kept checking them every 5 min to make sure nothing melted and once they where nice and hot the lense pulled off no problemo.

Gavin, were they the earlier Valeo type, part metal part plastic type or the later Valeo ones all plastic?

I didn’t do it to a headlight but to a driving light. The thing is to not heat them up to much so the plastic doesn’t melt but it softens up the sealent. I think there our a few videos on you tube.

I put mine in the oven at around 130 degrees (try different temps) which was enough to soften the sealant. Fitting the lens back on was similar - put both lens and body in the oven, then press them together when the sealant is sticky. Obviously wear some thick gloves!

I put my valeo in the oven at 100-110 for about 20min then they just pry apart. I then cleaned/scraped off all the crappy old sealant and put them back together with tiger seal .
