mmt 14 Posted May 30, 2020 Hi Guys, there is no fuel gauge in my car. The fuel level sender unit is however still in the tank. Would it be possible til wire a light to the sender to turn on when the fuel level is getting low? thanks. /M
jackherer 543 Posted May 30, 2020 Yes, there is a separate terminal on the sender for the low fuel light. If you put an ignition switched +12v feed to one side of a bulb and connect the other side to the sender in the tank it will light up when the fuel is low. You'll need the original (or a new) ground connected to the sender too obviously.
mmt 14 Posted May 30, 2020 (edited) Great- Thanks. Which pin is What? 1-2-3 counting from left? no. 44 is the sender unit. 65A is the warning light switch. How do I find out which pin(s) to use? none of the original wiring is in the car. Stand alone ecu also. do you know? Edited May 30, 2020 by mmt
jackherer 543 Posted May 30, 2020 Sorry, I'm not sure. Ultimately I ended up connecting to the other end of the wire that previously plugged into the instrument cluster as I have an aftermarket dash.
mmt 14 Posted May 31, 2020 Ok Thanks. is there any Way to test which pin is which without removing the sender from the tank.
mmt 14 Posted May 31, 2020 Hmmm if I run the ground through pin 2 or 3 and the light with switched + to 3 or 2 or Vice versa the light i constantly on. if i use pin 1 in any combination with 2 or 3 the light is off. almost full tank. any thoughts? thanks. /M
jackherer 543 Posted May 31, 2020 It's probably pin 1 and 2 then I would have thought.
mmt 14 Posted May 31, 2020 Thanks. Do you mean: pin 1 To Ground pin 2 To light bulb or pin 1 to light bulb pin 2 to Ground? been trawling the internet nothing of use- thought everything was to be found on there. thanks again /M
jackherer 543 Posted May 31, 2020 I would have thought pin 2 would be the common ground. As it's just a switch it doesn't really matter if you are using it by itself (i.e. without the gauge part)
mmt 14 Posted May 31, 2020 Great Thanks. I’ll connect it and make it drink a lot of fuel :-)
