Brakes too soft and bites really low down

Recommended Posts

K20205

Hi i put my 205 on road today and took it out for a test drive and the brakes are very soft and there is hardly any bite to it, the pedal has travel halfway before its grips the brakes and its very spongy.

ive bled the whole system already its still the same.

what can be the problem ?

thanks

Sounds like failing main brake cylinder.

Its all braided lines through out with a bias valve next to the handbrake,

the rears are drums and have been adjusted before hand and also all the compensators are removed.

Have you checked it’s all free moving? I did a car recently that had been stood about, 3 out of 4 rear brake cylinder pistons seized solid plus both front calipers. No surprise the brakes were s*ite.

Also double check brake shoe adjustment as this can give a long pedal.

full braided never gives as nice a feel as hardline pipe but it should still have bite.

I replaced the rear pistons in the drums and the front callipers are new, ill try bleed the system once more with new fluid and re adjust the rear drums and let me see if it makes a difference.

the car had been sleeping for over 3years now as i was doing a engine swap from a honda k20. I read from a few forum that maybe the vacc assist to the brake booster might be over working it as the engine is from a different car is that true?

3 ports is correct for a 1.6, a 1.9 has 4.

most replacement stuff comes 4 port with a blank or 2 in the box.
