PAS rack gaiter

Recommended Posts

I’m trying to change the small gaiter on the offside of the rack. Thought the old old one would just pull off But it appears to be bonded to the rack body so how does it come off?

Do you mean, drive in a thin screw between the rubber lip and the rack body at 90deg? To push the gaiter away from the rack body.

Look at the new one you are going to fit and all will become clear.

New one By Shaftec has no metal ring , just soft rubber.

Don’t buy inferior bits is all I can say to that then! The proper replacement has the steel ring moulded in that is a tap fit onto the end of the collar on the inner joint.

I thought Shaftec were OE suppliers, guess I’ll have to look for the right part now. Thanks all for explaining it all to me.

I like Firstline gear, their 205 hand brake cables are original Dura ones and their wheel bearings are always top brands. I was dubious about some Iljin 1.9 size ones but they have lasted well on partner vans. The only rubbish I ever got from them was Volvo wishbone bushes, sourced from Wrigleys again.

Shaftec are oe to Enid Blyton.
