Recommended Posts

Hi Due to enforced time off work i thought id do a bit on the Pug,    Right , stripped the rack off to check out a bit of free play and the near side track rod is sloppy , So has anyone bought one recently ?   from where,  how much,  and what make are they?

                    Regards

Bill, check that it isn't the plastic bush inside the end of the rack that is worn, wind the rack over that way then grab hold of the rack bar itself (inboard of the inner joint) and tug it all directions. Often you find its the plastic bush in the end of the rack casing that has worn out, it supports the rack over the full length and they do wear. You can (could) get them from Peugeot last time I tried for not much money.

If it is the track rod itself they are easy to get and loads of different manufacturers, just pick the one you personally like! These days no matter who you say, someone wants to tell you they are s*ite! Personally everything I've bought that is Febi Bilstein has been decent quality. Decent pair of stilsons to undo and then fit the new one, with some Loctite.

Cheers Tom

If its the track rod, I have used a load of different brands and all were fine,  check they are the same length as i have been supplied with several variations in length.

When fitting the new one, dont be upset if it has no "special" lockwsher, loctites fine.

(Tom I fitted some febi golf wishbone bushes and they were the Shore hardness of Wrigley`s spearmint) ie s*ite( as You predicted )

Thanks Tom, Jay ,

The plastic bush seems ok but the track rod flops about like a limp one, It seems that only the nearside rod has a rubber bump stop kind of thing , is that right ?  Maybe its the lock down times but Andrew Page/Euro pats, Gsf and BMS all showing out of stock.  Are there any Citroen C2 or Zara parts that are replacements?

Mister Auto are showing loads of different brands and all in stock. Downside they take a few days to deliver. But I guess you are in no desperate rush at the moment. Xsara are similar in that they will fit the rack but are too long. C2 I don't know.
