ATK 155 2 Cars Posted February 25, 2020 When people fit new wings what do you do about the inner wing earth point? On the original theres a little block welded that the bolt screws into? If a hole was drilled and a new stud and nut used the end of the stud would be suspectible to wet and muck being thrown up into the arches would it not? Tom Fenton 1,633 Posted February 25, 2020 The earth point is part of the headlamp panel. Not the wing or inner wing.
ATK 155 2 Cars Posted February 25, 2020 Hi Tom on my phase 2 and others I’ve seen theres an earth between the washer bottle and strut top on the passenger side screwed into the inner wing?
welshpug 1,722 Posted February 25, 2020 i don't recall a 205 with one there but a 309 I had did, I haven't worked on many late cars though! the earlier cars used the coil/ignition amp mounting plate as an earth point, which iirc also earthed to the transmission possibly. ATK 155 2 Cars Posted February 25, 2020 Yeah there's one earth lead from battery to gearbox, and one to the inner wing in between washer bottle and strut top - the bolt goes through the wing even though the end of the bolt is exposed and will get wet with water coming up off the tyres? Although someone on one of the 205 facebook groups said it doesn't matter if the earth gets wet!!
Ryan 99 Posted February 25, 2020 My 1990 (mostly ph2) has an earth point on the inner wing as described.
ATK 155 2 Cars Posted February 25, 2020 Still don't quite understand how it's ok for the end of the bolt though the inner wing (three ph2's including mine are like this) to be exposed and will get wet with water coming up off the tyres? or as it's an earth does it not matter if it gets wet?! welshpug 1,722 Posted February 25, 2020 not sure why you think its a problem, other than it might rust the bolt a bit
ATK 155 2 Cars Posted February 25, 2020 Dunno, thought that earths shouldnt get wet. Doesn’t matter then does it?
Callum 13 1 Cars Posted February 26, 2020 It will be clean where the bolt head and eyelet touch the inner wing so the condition of the end of the bolt shouldnt make any difference
