No spark after fiddling with rear lights?

Recommended Posts

HelmutGTI

My engine is rebuild, every electrical component is new and it started just fine a month ago when I actually drove it to the paint shop. Today I rolled the car out of the garage to work out side with it. I’m trying to get the rear electrical right. No light lights as it should. When I then tried to start it “ nothing!!!??? Quick test shows no spark in any coil. My guess my electrical problem today did something to the ignition. Any ideas??? Any fuse or relay?

Does the engine turn over?

What does work or do you really mean nothing?

Could be only fuel pump earth (missing) if you've been working with the wiring around the rear lights .. fuel pump earth is beneath the left rear light .

Do you have fuel ? does the pump works ?

Thanks! Think that was the ticket. I removed the earth in the boot and cleaned and voila! It started.

so am i correct in saying that you may not get a spark to the spark plug if there is not a good earth on the back of the rear lights.

no, the spark plugs earth in the engine bay

sounds like Patrik did have spark but his rear lights were out

so Damir suggested he check the rear earth cluster (left rear corner of boot) which earths rear lights and fuel pump

once that earth connection was cleaned, the tail lights and the fuel pump worked and the engine fired up
