Standard immobiliser?

Recommended Posts

When I turn the key in the ignition, the indicators flash once and then the car starts.  On my old GTI I had to manually put an aftermarket key onto a slot before it would start.  Behind the battery in the engine bay is a black box, underneath it is a TOAD logo.  Were these fitted as standard on the later cars or is this an aftermarket job?  If they were standard, are they any good or should I have it removed and a better one fitted?

Thanks!

It's not standard but it's the aftermarket one we'd suggest if you asked for a recommendation.

It'll be an Ai606 probably, manuals are available to download online.

The quality of the installation is the main thing, if it's been bodged then any alarm/immob will be a nightmare but a well fitted Toad is a good alarm.
